French term

en casque

French to English Medical Medical (general) cutaneous lymphoma
Another question from my set of documents on cutaneous lymphoma, this time regarding B-cell lymphomas. My query is regarding the term ‘en casque’ here – does it refer to the distribution of the lymphoma (helmet-like?)

Sur le cuir chevelu, ce lymphome peut réaliser une infiltration assez diffuse « en casque » avec parfois (Figures 1 et 2) un aspect télangiectasique.
Proposed translations (English)
4 +1 “helmet-” or “cup-” shaped

Nathalie Stewart Mar 11, 2017:
Thank you Thank you, Sue. It was in fact your own suggestion, initially. I just elaborated on it a little :)
Sue Davis (asker) Mar 11, 2017:
I do think this refers to a macroscopic phenomenon and have gone with Nathalie's suggestion. Many thanks Nathalie! and to Liz and Erzsebet for your input
Erzsébet Czopyk Mar 8, 2017:
@Sue Uh-oh, now it does not appear.
liz askew Mar 8, 2017:
"en casque" is describing the infiltration
Sue Davis (asker) Mar 8, 2017:
Hi Erzsébet thanks for posting, I can't get the first link to work, could you repost please?
Nathalie Stewart Mar 8, 2017:
"helmet-like" Perhaps « en casque » is being used here as a parallel to "céphalée en casque" - since there are quotation marks in the French text, suggesting a creative or non-standard way of speaking. In English, a "helmet headache" is one way of describing a tension headache (feeling like you’re wearing a helmet that’s one size too small and getting smaller). But no instances of "lymphome en casque" or "helmet lymphoma" can be found. So I would keep the quotation marks in English and write something along the lines of:

On the scalp, this type of lymphoma may present a fairly scattered, "helmet-like" infiltrating pattern...

Here is an article about a B-cell lymphoma with an unusual infiltrating pattern:

Poikilocytosis:
Marked abnormalities in the shape of red cells also occur in megaloblastic anemias. It has been suggested that these abnormalities result from fragmentation of the abnormal large red cells as they pass through small arterioles. As the megaloblastic anemia becomes more sever, bizarre shapes such as triangles and helmets increases proportionately.
