A solution of (S)-2-((triisopropylsilyl)oxy)propanal (5.0 g, 21.70 mmol) in Et2O (108 mL) was prepared in a 250 mL round bottom flask and cooled to -78 °C in a dry ice/acetone bath under an atmosphere of N2. Vinylmagnesium bromide (1.0 M in THF, 23.87 mL, 23.87 mmol) was then added via syringe over 30 min. The reaction mixture was stirred at -78 °C for 30 min, and then was allowed to slowly warm to rt over 2 h. The reaction was poured over saturated aqueous NH4Cl (200 mL) and extracted with Et2O (3 x 100 mL). The combined organic layers were dried over MgSO4, filtered, and concentrated to afford a pale yellow oil. The oil was purified by flash column chromatography (SiO2, 020% ethyl acetate in hexanes) to afford the title compound (4.30 g, 77%, ***d.r. ~ 6:1***) as a clear, colorless oil
