Proposed translations

Take a new turn is very close in meaning to prendere una nuova piega.
You could add another phrasal verb and say
Folds it up and stows it away if it is specifically designed to be taken on public transport.

XXX breaking ground: fold it & stash it
"prendere una nuova piega" means taking a new turn or direction but just look at a few successful slogans used like:
Daz (Dash): "Whiter than white" to "Più bianco non si può".
This is just an attempt to keep the "fold" theme. You don't say whether the bike folds down to carried on as hand luggage or folds down to be stashed in a back-pack. You coud probably work around the theme of "folding it and stashing it".

I forgot to add: always send several creative sloutions to client for the slogan - it shows you think creative and don't just translate, plus they really like being able to choose!

brainstorming some other ideas:
puts a (new) flex in its step
puts a pleat in its seat -
this one would refer to the bicycle seat, but I don't know how the bike "folds" in half - not having a better description.
