German term
Grundkörper
German to English
Marketing
Food & Drink
Hi, does anyone have any idea how to translate "Grundkörper" in this sentence? It seems to be some sort of general term used by a cake manufacturer to refer to their own alcoholic drinks and appears here in a recipe:
500g Trüffelmasse mit 250 g Butter zu einer schaumigen Creme aufschlagen und nach Belieben mit einem unserer Grundkörper (z.B. Rum 74 %, Amaretto oder Cointreau) und/oder unsere Aroma und Fruchtpasten abschmecken.
I may end up just using "liqueur" because of the context, but I'd be grateful for any suggestions on "Grundkörper" in this context.

Rectified spirit/neutral spirits/rectified alcohol

No, the more I look at it the more I think I am wrong. Rum 74%, Amaretto and Cointreau seem to be finished drinks in themselves not neutral spirits.

Will be interested to know if it is right or wrong and the answer! : )

essential ingredient
Wendy's references suggest that this is a "foundational substance" (forms the Grundlage).

I am thinking that this is "fundamental," which has a stronger meaning than "basic."

Dr. Bernstein bases his work on theorems of Kronecker,
Weber, and Hilbert. He gives the necessary and sufficient
conditions that a "Primideal" of the fundamental system
(Grundkörper) shall lie in a particular class of the same.

Thanks, Phil. One could maybe call it a concentrate (in the case of Tomami) or extract, depending on the circumstances

I'm realising I missed out on the poitín making lessons here and am really not sure!!!!! : )
@AnyoneInterested [Updated] I don't like the Kudoz chem. entries for Grundkörper. The meaning is closer to parent compound than skeleton.

parent compound/parent molecule (backbone) > Grundkörper (Strukturformel)
Maybe basis for a class/series of compounds

Yes, main ingredient was something I was thinking of as well. Might have over researched this one and gotten lost!!!! : )
Thanks for the suggestion of "staples". I think that might work - and thanks for pointing out that rum is not a liqueur. Had a bit of a senior moment there!:-/ I'm not sure if the spirits are made by the same manufacturer, but it looks like they sell them under their own brand anyway.
Could Grundkörper mean something like "staples", ie there are lots of other recipes containing spirits? Is this a book?
You can't say "liqueur", because rum is not a liqueur.
