: Yes, Kraepelin's sub-classification of what was previously considered globally as "insanity" is the basis of this term: a "disease entity" distinguished by virtue of its course. I am not sure if there is an established English translation, probably not.

Although it sounds like a translation, "clinical course" has quite a few hits in the context of melancholia.
Then again, might it not be appropriate to simply use "disorder" or "clinical category"?
One thing I found while Googling was that "unipolar" appears to be more common than "monopolar" in this context. I assume there's no difference in meaning.
