‘And I arrived, an old man in a strange city, wearing my suit of pain.’

English Art/Literary Poetry & Literature A line from Goethe in English
A quote from Goethe in an American novel. From what Goethe's work could it have been taken?

"In his head a hot wire threaded from temple to temple, and he noticed a lump at the back of his skull where he must have hit a rock when he fell off the path a few hours before. His breathing was shallow, raspy, and difficult. A line from Goethe sounded in his ear: ‘And I arrived, an old man in a strange city, wearing my suit of pain.’"

Thank you, guys!

I'd just do my own translation. It's pretty straightforward, and you don't need to copy someone else's.

Hi, guys I have tried researching it and have not found anything. I need to know this, because I am translating the novel from English into Russian and if the work with this line is found, I could either use the existing classical translation (mentioning the translator) or give my own translation, but I need to know the context (where the line is from). There are many other quotations in the novel, and I have found them in English and even in German.

Hi Alexander This is not a terminology question, so you should really post it somewhere else.
I've Googled the key words from the sentence in English and German, as you probably have, and can't find anything.
It's quite possible that the quote is made up and/or not by Goethe.
Why do you need to know this?

Have you tried researching it? What have you found so far?
