Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

Non-PRO (1): Nikki Scott-Despaigne

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

Discussion

Nikki Scott-Despaigne Aug 23, 2018:
France does not really have a degree ceremony such as you might find in the UK and the US, for example. Some schools do have a ceremony, usually organised informally within a particular department and held a year or so later.

The "attestation de réussite" does not look at all formal to someone having studied in the UK, but it is a key document proving that you have passed the course in question and is the only way you can prove that you have in fact passed your course. Even when you get the certificate (many don't actually bother), your "attestation de réussite" will need to be produced as proof.

Note about the word "diplôme". It can also be translated as "diploma" in English, but not usually to describe an actual certificate.
Nikki Scott-Despaigne Aug 23, 2018:
At the end of an academic year in France, you will receive, various documents, in this order:
1) relevé de notes : set out in table form, the list of courses (CM, TD, TP, etc.) and the mark obtained for each. This applies to your bac, licence, BTS, master's, whatever. It will also give your "moyenne" (overall average for each term and for the year). If you have passed, or "validé" (used familiarly), you will see the "mention" too (generally, passable, assez bien, bien, très bien). In the UK, this is often referred to as a "transcription" of your marks;
2) attestation de réussite : if you have acquired a formal qualification, then you will receive this "attestation de réussite", more often than not on plain paper. It indicates the names of the qualification, the overall "mention", and will bear a stamp and a signature.
3) "diplôme" : in terms of documentation, this term is used in France to describe the actual stiff paper certificate. Your "attestation de réussite" together with your "relevé de notes" will serve for around a year, if not longer, as the stiff paper "diplôme" takes around a year to be printed out.

Which diploma? Attestation de réussite is a validation of a diploma, but it could be baccalauréat or something else. Is any other information given?

Thanks.
agree Nikki Scott-Despaigne : In France, it is not unusual to have to wait a year+ to receive the "diplôme" itself, referred to in the UK as the "certificate". Schools/unis issue an "attestation de réussite" (au diplôme de...), generally on plain (not headed) paper, stamped/signed.

Yes, I recently collected the certificate for my Maîtrise (1981), which had never been sent to me.
