Corporation. More specifically - C Corporation
Maximo Wilhelm Muñoz Jan 23, 2019:
@bigedsenior... How would you translate: Sociedad Mercantil?
Please refer to that specific term.
Lesley Clarke (asker) Jan 22, 2019:
The translation is for the USA
bigedsenior Jan 22, 2019:
Knowing what the target country is would facilitate the translation. In the USA, 'joint stock company' is an archaic term, hardly used here. In Mexico, there are six types of Sociedades Mercantiles - https://www.entrepreneur.com/article/307590 - and there is one that would correspond to a regular, or C-corporation. Some of the other Mexican forms have elements of LLC's and partnerships.

joint-stock company

A joint-stock company is a business entity in which shares of the company's stock can be bought and sold by shareholders. Each shareholder owns company stock in proportion, evidenced by their shares (certificates of ownership).[1] Shareholders are able to transfer their shares to others without any effects to the continued existence of the company.[2]

...
Some jurisdictions still provide the possibility of registering joint-stock companies without limited liability. In the United Kingdom and other countries that have adopted its model of company law, they are known as unlimited companies. In the United States, they are known simply as joint-stock companies.

agree Maximo Wilhelm Muñoz : Está muy bien tu respuesta Robert; aunque yo la presentaría por: Joint-Stock Business Company / Joint-Stock Business Corporation / Joint-Stock Commercial Company / Joint-Stock Mercantile Corporation / Joint-Stock Trading Company, etc. ¡Saludos!

Thanks, Maximo. Those qualifiers aren't really necessary in English. "Company" alone has that connotation.

Best,

Peer comment(s):

disagree James A. Walsh : "Joint-stock company" is enough in English. And I'm sorry, but to offer "in order to constituting before the attestation of the undersigned Official Notary" as a translation with a confidence level of 5 is, frankly, laughable. Why bother?

Take your time to express your proposal and not to criticize James. Yo are laughable by not doing so. Don’t edit your answer, unless you expressed your translation proposal.
