I am working on a paper on the analysis of power systems with XTAP. The current section deals with the simulation of flicker suppression using the separately excited SVC. The following piece is from the discussion of the analysis result. In the expression 'これを拡大するように' of the second paragraph, what does 'これ' refer to?

I think that 'これ(this)' means the '外乱(disturbance).' The original document says that the gain shall be 1 or less. Otherwise, although the control effect might be improved, the control system would work so that the gain might be amplified.

Although it appeared quite logical....
I thought that "ゲイン(=gain)" was the parameter of the control system, such as in the PID. But since I am not familiar with the automatic control technology (I hope to learn that) and only know basic terminologies, I would have made wrong interpretation.
A thorough flicker suppression of extraneous interfering sine waves does improve quality of target wave form, but requires more frequent feedforward reactive power inputs, which incrementally boost the gain level beyond '1' unless, in anticipation of this inevitable side effect, pre-correction 'gain' is set accordingly at a value lower than '1'.
Don't agree? Well we may all agree on the above reasoning, but one more thing needs to be done: conforming to the discursive articulation of the point made. Once ように 動作する is taken into account, これ has to refer to the greater frequency of feedforward based reactive operations identified by Kayoko-san. Congratulations, K-san!
