English term

well served

English Other Tourism & Travel
The sight of a gleaming railway snaking over an Alpine pass or hugging a lake has long inspired travellers, and both are well served by rail routes. This itinerary weaves from France through Switzerland to Austria, with spectacular views that will glue you to the train windows.

I don't really understand what well-served means in this context. Many thanks in advance.

English term (edited): well served by rail routes
Selected

there are many rail routes

well served by rail routes => there are many rail routes
Peer comment(s):

agree Tina Vonhof (X) : The sentence doesn't quite make sense - it's 'tourism speak'.

thank you -" well served by rail routes." gets About 3,090 results on Google
agree Tony M : Yes, though not necessarily so much the routes as by the number / frequency of trains running on them.

thank you - they are probably well served by the "rains" also

thank you
agree AllegroTrans : it's really saying there are plenty of trains (there may only be one rail route for all we know)

thank you
neutral Daryo : going along many lakes and crossing many mountain passes - there is most likely just ONE railway for each mountain pass, or along any one lake.

thank you
neutral Yvonne Gallagher : with AT. Lots of trains, not necessarily a lot of routes at all

English term (edited): are well served

they both benefit from the railroad service / system in positive ways

This is my understanding of the phrase.
Peer comment(s):

agree Elisa Lopez Schiaffino : Yes, if a train serves a certain location it means it reaches that location. So if you live, there you can take a train to/from other places.

neutral Tony M : That might incidentally be the case, but it's not intrinsically the meaning of the S/T as asked.

neutral AllegroTrans : Agree with Tony - not quite right

Rail rout has quite assisted both Alpine pass and the lake

The rail rout has assisted both the Alpine pass and the lake it passes through.
Peer comment(s):

disagree Tony M : Although this might be incidentally true, that's really not what the S/T as asked is saying; and note that 'quite assisted' is potentially ambiguous in EN, and so best avoided! Several errors, and as Daryo says "assist" not right verb here, unlike 'serve'

It might 'incidentally' help the asker.
disagree AllegroTrans : Ungrammatical + spelling error + lack of article

disagree Daryo : how do you "assist" lakes and mountain passes ??? I was until now under the impression you can "assist" only people? You can't invent your own version of English and expect others to just accept it. Languages don't work that way.

You could say the same thing for serving, but you see it is used where you do not think proper,
