In Tanzanian Swahili in every day life, we use mitungi for storing gas. The large one is called mtungi and by using Swahili prefix 'ki' we refer to the smaller mtungi to form kimtungi. Gas is normally sold in mtungi (singular) and mitungi (plural).

Catridge has two meanings (1) small part used in large machine (2) a small tube containing a substance.

Hence mtungi stands for the second meaning (2) not the first one.
