escorar

Non-PRO Portuguese to English Art/Literary Poetry & Literature
I'm trying to understand the meaning of this verb in the context "Escore esta hemorragia, querido." I've searched all the monolingual dictionaries I have and can't find any other definitions for escorar beyond "to brace, support." I'm not sure I understand how this could be applicable to a hemorrhage. Is there another meaning to this verb that I'm missing? Thanks!

Nick Taylor Apr 25, 2020:
@AJS It would assist if you had included more context.
The preceding sentence and the following one for example. it is extremely difficult to understand the meaning without further context. prsonally (in the light of this) "assist" sounds really weird!
Mark Robertson Apr 24, 2020:
Confusão entre escorar e escorrer Perhaps the speaker meant to say "Escorre esta hemorragia."

Escorrer: verbo intransitivo

Let's see if you can stand this bleeding (or stand the heat)

It seems to be just a colloquial expression, not to be translated literally.
