French term

porteur de l'architecture

French to English Tech/Engineering Engineering: Industrial naval architecture
The document takes the form of a checklist to ensure that various aspects of the engineering solutions for the construction of a ship are taken into account.

This checklist is said to be "passée par le porteur de l'architecture avant le circuit de validation du document". This "porteur de l'architecture" is most certainly a person, as an earlier sentence stated that this step should be performed by an Engineering Manager.

My working solution for "porteur" is "lead", which is the safest solution I have been able to derive from my personal glossaries. Does anyone have a better suggestion?

Question closed As the project has now been delivered, I have closed the question but, as ever, thank you for your input. I decided to opt for 'lead' on the basis of my reckoning and Phil's confirmation. Knowing the client and their terminology, I would say that in this particular case 'naval/chief architect' would probably not have been the correct term (as a separate term is commonly used in their texts).

There's also "owner", though I can't say I like it.

Dear Phil Kind of you to say, Phil, but from time to time I do like to check whether a solution I have reached can be bettered before using it forever.

Hi Thomas Why aren't you happy with "lead"? I think it works fine.

holder (load-bearer) of the architecture

The dictionary meaning of 'porteur' is 'holder' or 'load-bearer'.
Example sentence:

passée par le porteur de l'architecture avant le circuit de la validation du document

...passed by the holder of the architecture before the circuit of the document validation

disagree AllegroTrans : More dictionary nonsense; do you really think translation of terms is done like this?
