Non-PRO French to English Other Idioms / Maxims / Sayings
Hi all,

I'm looking for an English equivalent of this French proverb. It means that you shouldn't spend time with fools or you risk becoming one yourself.

Thanks!

Lie down with dogs, wake up with fleas

I don't think there is an exact equivalent to this proverb, but this does have the sense that you can be influenced (in a bad way) by those around you.

neutral Julie Barber : I think that this would be ok if there is context around it relating to fools, otherwise we wouldn't know that it specifically relates to hanging out with fools

Whoever walks with the wise becomes wise, but the companion of fools will suffer

agree Julie Barber : I think that the answer should specifically relate to fools (not just bad company). I'd be tempted to drop the first part. Plenty of options to be found here https://www.biblegateway.com/verse/en/Proverbs 13:20
