Discussion

Lirka (asker) Aug 6, 2020:
Name of the Lab It seem that SRL is the name of a lab.
Anne Schulz Aug 2, 2020:
Cervical? Referring to the bladder neck, is it? (or the neck, or the uterine cervix?)

Rapamycin is discussed in context with bladder outlet obstruction (see e.g. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/23313213/), but this is certainly not an established indication which would be described in the SmPC. On the other hand, I can't think of any other procedure, technique or substance which could be abbreviated SRL. You may have to add a translator's note (unless someone else comes up with a brilliant idea).
Lirka (asker) Aug 2, 2020:
Anne,The only possibility would be the comparison you mention. But the two drugs (provided it is indeed sirolimus) do not seem to be used for the same/similar conditions.
Lirka (asker) Aug 2, 2020:
Hi Anne, No, they are promoting the botulinum toxin drug for a cervical condition. I do not see a connection with sirolimus.
Anne Schulz Aug 2, 2020:
Hi Lirka, Botulinum toxin need not be a reason to reject sirolimus, because it has lately been associated with positive effects post transplantation, and siroliumus is a drug used in transplantation medicine.

So, what about the subject of this letter – is the pharmaceutical company promoting some technique or effect "SRL" which can be achieved by their drug? or warning about some side effect from "SRL" which can be managed by their drug? or comparing their drug against some competitor "SRL" for use in urology?...
Lirka (asker) Aug 2, 2020:
Hi Anne! It's a botulinum toxin.
Regina Eichstaedter Aug 2, 2020:
Mit Anne Wenn "Sirolimus" nicht die richtige Lösung ist, wie soll Brent dann beurteilen, ob man SRL im Deutschen beibehalten kann?
Anne Schulz Aug 2, 2020:
More context? Can you tell us, without violating non-disclosure agreements, what (type of) medicine and what types of situations the letter is about? This would surely facilitate a search for the meaning of "SRL".

Summary

In addition to an analysis of the final results of phase I/II and phase III clinical trials of sirolimus (SRL), this review focuses on the recent results of several studies in renal transplantation, which include diverse combinations of SRL with other immunosuppressive agents.

Are you sure it’s not sirolimus. This is used for renal transplants, which is covered by urology.

Here is a list of other possibilities:

I wouldn’t use "SRL Anwendung” unless you are absolutely sure that the same abbreviation is used in Germany.

sarcin/ricin loop

So that means you can leave it as SRL if this is the right definition.
Note from asker:
Hi Brent, and thanks for your input. I'm afraid that sirolimus does no fit the context at all. Do you think I could just leave it as is in German? (as SRL-Anwendung)?
