If it's some "difference" that was specifically mentioned before in the ST (like a "difference" between the declared and the due amount that was assessed by the taxman after examining the corporation tax return for 2019) then you would need to stick to "difference", otherwise, you could use any variation on "remaining amount to pay"
"we have been told by the tax office that there is still a remaining amount to pay ...."
