28% of HCP times the number of trial seasons

1 HCP (health care provider) participated in 2 trial seasons would be counted as 2 HCP-seasons.

"seasons"

Hi, Anca!

I believe that means like a period of time or a rotation for the HCP. So, it will be like "28% of hcp-rotations".

I hope this could help!

flu seasons

The answer is there in your text.

This is about a clinical trial comparing the efficacy of face masks and respirators. Healthcare professionals were asked to wear different types of protection during the peak season for flu and other respiratory diseases, and recorded how often they got ill.

Each year for 4 years, during the 12-week period of peak viral respiratory illness, pairs of outpatient sites (clusters) within each center were matched and randomly assigned to the N95 respirator or medical mask groups.

From the same study:
Among 2862 randomized participants (mean [SD] age, 43 [11.5] years; 2369 [82.8%]) women), 2371 completed the study and accounted for 5180 HCP-seasons.

I've just noticed that Anca says the trial is about vaccines. All the hits for "HCP seasons" relate to masks, so she may be incorrect, but the principle is clearly the same and it still relates to the flu season.

I can't help with translating it, but perhaps the difference in the numbers is people who dropped out. I agree that the term is not well explained. Here is the whole paper, which may contain the answer:

Note from asker:
You are right, I corrected, it is not for vaccines. I agree with your explanation, but I still do not know how to translate the term, I cannot include the entire story. It is not 5180 seasons of flue for HCP, nor 5180 HCP in one season, do you have any hint?
