M.EC

French to English Other Education / Pedagogy School report
This is a question for people with experience of translating official certificates.

The abbreviation "M.EC" is found in the school report of a student in the "sixième" class of a school in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

On the left is a list of subjects, then there are marks for each subject, and on the right is this column:
EXAMEN D'ÉTAT
______Points obtenus__Max
M.EC__518__________1000
%_____52

That is as much context as I can give, as there is no facility to attach an image of the relevant page to this post. In fact a PDF of the same kind of document is available at
http://oas.juco.ac.tz/OAS/uploads/attachment/15669749197784....
but this does not help much.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Michael

Discussion

Thank you Marco Although I have received a couple of other reasonable suggestions, yours seems to fit the source text best. I would like to award points to you, but you have posted your suggestion as a discussion entry. Could you repost "moyenne école" as an answer?
M&YTranslations (asker) Feb 17, 2021:
Thank you mchd That is a reasonable suggestion. However, there's no indication in the source text that M.EC applies only to marks for written work as opposed to oral activities. Thank you anyway.
mchd Feb 16, 2021:
Moyenne à l'écrit ?
Conor McAuley Feb 16, 2021:
I think Marco's right
My initial thought was Master's in Economics, that's why I asked for clarification...then I figured out that the student must be about 12!
M&YTranslations (asker) Feb 16, 2021:
Thank you. <<Moyenne école>> is a very plausible suggestion. Allow me to wait a while though, to see what other people come up with.
Marco Solinas Feb 16, 2021:
To Asker Just a guess: "moyenne école"? meaning the average for the school?
Is the grade for the student given separately?
M&YTranslations (asker) Feb 16, 2021:
As stated in my post, the document is a "school report".
Conor McAuley Feb 16, 2021:
Is the document...
...a report card, a diploma or a grade transcript?

Average Continuous Assessment Marks

M.EC:
Moyenne Examens de Contrôle
Moyenne des notes issues des examens de contrôle continu

Note from asker:
This was a reasonable suggestion, but the abbreviation for "Moyenne examens de contrôle" would probably be M.E.C not M.EC, and I don't see any indication in the source that the 52% refers to marks for continuous assessment only. Nonetheless, thank you very much for your attempt to answer my question. I do appreciate your time and effort.
