French term

faisceau arciforme céphalique

French to English Medical Medical (general) orthopedics
Hi,

I am translating Singh index for osteoporosis and this French version seems to be completely different than the English ones I have seen.

"Grade 2: absence de travées tronchantéro-diaphysaires et du faisceau arciforme céphalique"
"Grade 3: affaiblissement du faisceau arciforme céphalique"

In my research I found "faisceau arciforme", "faisceau céphalique" and "faisceau troncanterien"
but not the two together.... Thought it might be a typo but it's used twice...

I am completely stumped and any help will be greatly appreciated.

Joanna

Thanks As I put in my answer indeed. Good to know :-)

Hi everyone,
Sorry for the delay but was waiting for confirmation from the author (who also sent me the original article). The term in English is "principal tensile and compressive group"
Nicolas Gambardella Jun 7, 2021:
This is not a nerve bundle This is a text related to osteoporosis. The "faisceaux" are bone structures in the femur. One of the signs of osteoporosis is the disappearance of the "faisceaux cephaliques" and "fasceaux arciformes", that reinforce the structure of the femur head (hence the adjective cephalic).

tract arcuatocerebellar tract is the translation, but this is a cerebellar structure, has nothing to do with the femur. One of the first hits on "trochanter bundles arciform" gives me this, which shows arciform and cephalic bundles (both of which are arching), so either the author is talking about both (with some sort of typo involve) or he/she is talking about the cephalic bundles. I'd be more in favor of "cephalic" alone, but if you can't refine the search to get a definitive answer or ask any questions, put a note in your translation.

As in your previous question, if you have a readymade English definition, surely you should use that rather than puzzling over things that may have different names in the two languages.

faisceau arcuato-cerebelleux Only thing I could find in my anatomy book that combines faisceau + arc + brain: Tractus cerebellaris: Les fibres du faisceau arcuato-cerebelleux naissent au niveau du noyau arqué. Does this make any sense in your context?

arcuate and medial trabecular systems

Indeed there are a "faisceau arciforme" and a "faisceau céphalique". However in osteporosis texts, we find either "le faisceau arciforme céphalique" or things like "les faisceaux principaux de travées (arciforme, céphalique)".

Alternatively, you could use their function, as seems to be often the case:
"Principal tensile and compressive trabeculae"

Ooops. Didn't see that! Sorry Nicolas :(
