Hi everyone,
I'm translating a story in which the narrator travels from Sweida to Damascus and describes what happens at all the checkpoints along the way.
In this sentence, I'm having trouble capturing the image the author is describing. Especially the verbs اهتأرت and سال.
Context:
Thanks for your help!

sand barriers
I passed by these sand barriers hundreds of times when I used to teach at Sweida University. These barriers are used for two purposes. The first is during active combat to provide some kind of protection and the other is on the two sides of a road to provide protection for a checkpoint that blocks the road. They can be 1-3 meters high.

10. On 15 March, east of United Nations position 9-63, near Udaysah (Sector
East), the Israel Defense Forces removed pieces of concrete pipe from a track
leading to the Israeli technical fence, south of the Blue Line. Subsequently,
Lebanese municipal workers violated the Blue Line when creating a sand barrier in the same location

Discussion
Why don't you ask a separate question about اهترأت? There is obviously a typo there in اهتأرت.
