Spanish term

los combates han degenerado rápidamente

Homework / test Spanish to English Social Sciences Government / Politics religion and war

Maybe the follwoing...First limited to clashes between the Lebanese Forces (Christian and unified militias), sheltered in the Christian neighborhoods of eastern Sidon, (skirmishes between christian Lebanes Forces )) and the regular (oficial Lebanese) army, the fighting rapidly went back, became worse, with the participation alongside the armed forces, Muslim militias and fedayeen of the Palestinian resistance. .When Muslim militias and Fedayeen became fighters alongside the Regulal Lebanese Army.
Maybe look at Wiki... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lebanese_Forces.

the fighting quickly spread [to include]

I think "degenerado" is misused in Spanish. Logically speaking, if the fighting degenerated, there would be less fighting, not more.
Peer comment(s):

agree Tomasso : good answer, (pues the honor of those fighting, ***declined***, (moral conduct degenerated, went dowm hill, over time meanings change.

Thank you, Tomasso! I see what you mean, but maybe that's secondary to the main idea.
agree Marcelo González : My question (in Discussion) about what follows 'degenerado rápidamente' aside, 'the fighting quickly spread' sounds good to me. :-)

fighting rapidly broke out

Another option. Or, fighting swiftly erupted.
