Arabic term

بصورة آية

Arabic to English Art/Literary Poetry & Literature
Hi everyone,

I'm working on a Palestinian text, and just wanted to confirm that this means 'perfectly' or 'very well'?

It's a scene where a mother is collecting pictures of dead Palestinian children.

أبكي على صور مسلسل مجازرنا الدرامي متعدد الحلقات والأجزاء، أجمعها في ألبومات خاصة، أعود إليها أكثر كما أعود إلى ألوبمات العائلة، وقد أنتظر
في اللاشعور وقوع مجزرة معزّزة ومرفقة بصورة آية في التمثيل والبشاعة، أترقّبها وأتعجّلها كي أُراكم أرشيفي في البكاء.

So basically she's subconsciously waiting for these massacres to occur which will be supported/accompanied by photos which are perfectly staged??

Thank you!

Saliha18 (asker) Sep 3, 2021:
So @Abd Alrahman Almidani, something like a gruesome image of mutilated bodies?
Abd Alrahman Almidani Sep 1, 2021:
تمثيل The word تمثيل doesn't refer to staging or acting. It is تمثيل بالجثث, so it means mutilation.
Saliha18 (asker) Sep 1, 2021:
Thank you! I hope you actually find the time/opportunity to translate literature, you'd be fabulous at it.
Saeed Najmi Sep 1, 2021:
Your enquiry: "torture" "The thought of a family, a dad and his kids, a mom and her baby child, a new arrival to this world, all hiding, clinging to each other in the dark..., I'd rather not get carried away; shaking with fear of a missile that could fall right on their bare hwads burrying them under the rubble. That is an emotional torture a mental "image", not "picture" anymore as this is all in the subconscious, can't miss to express. Our body language is just a physical expression and a reflection of our feelings. Therefore, the "image", please amend my suggestion accordingly, the scenes and "images", the mom is mentally making of the massacre reflect "torture". Dying with the expression of "fear" on your face, all around your body and inside your heart, with that feeling and expression, one's picture in the media and mental image cannot not testify of torture. Kindly bear with my attempt to argue, on purely litterary basis, for my case and to address your question, as well.
Saliha18 (asker) Sep 1, 2021:
I was just wondering where you got the torture/tortuous aspect from in the sentence?
Saliha18 (asker) Sep 1, 2021:
Thank you for being so generous with your time and comments!

صورة آية @Saliha
Instead of a picture so torturous and atrocious, you may consider the following:
1. A picture extremely torturous and atrocious, or
2. A picture that models extreme torture/anguish and atrocity.
In a previoys instance, your question was تصفية الجسد الفلسطيني. IMO, within the context you are translating, particularly the mother's bitterness, I'd rather render the meaning using "cleansing" as that is what it is really. As in ethnic cleansing, the case here is cleansing of a people. Elimination is more appropriate in the context of "murder".

with a picture so...

آية في is a modifier/intensifier as in
جد/غاية في/آية في الجمال
so besutiful.
"perfectly" conveys the same purpose by the wsy.
Note from asker:
This explanation is super helpful. Thank you!
