IPV/OPV

IPV = inacticated polio vaccine

OPV = oral polio vaccine

Polio vaccines are vaccines used to prevent poliomyelitis (polio).[2] Two types are used: an inactivated poliovirus given by injection (IPV) and a weakened poliovirus given by mouth (OPV).

Polio-related paralysis is caused by wild polio virus (WPV) and also in rare cases by the weakened live vaccine virus in the oral polio vaccine (OPV). The number of wild polio cases has gone down dramatically since the introduction and widespread use of the OPV and inactivated polio vaccine (IPV).
