Serbian term

Serbian to English Law/Patents Law (general) conflict of interest

text book definition of "kickbacks" i.e. some of the money paid to the supplier of goods or services, or recipients of various grants and subventions is "kicked back" to those who approved or influenced the decision of the paying company / institution.

a technical detail: giving "kickbacks" to companies owned by officials [=> "функционерским фирмама"] (instead of throwing kickbacks to those civil servants / public officials / politicians directly) is just one of many possible forms of kickbacks - the definition given in the ST is too narrow and probably lagging few steps behind the "creativity" of the practitioners in that field.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

A kickback is an illegal payment intended as compensation for preferential treatment or any other type of improper services received.

Kickbacks are often referred to as a type of bribery.

While kickbacks can take many different forms, they all feature some sort of collusion between two parties.

Paying or receiving kickbacks is a corrupt practice that interferes with an employee's or a public official’s ability to make unbiased decisions.

quid pro quo / exchange transaction

quid pro quo exchange / (unauthorised) exchange transaction or reciprocal transfer

exchange transaction (or conditional transfer) - a reciprocal transfer between two parties
quid pro quo/favour exchanges - an intent to give or receive something in exchange for a favourable official action

reciprocal giving

"Following Mauss’ insights, reciprocal giving is a way for members of a society to develop and maintain relationships, as giving obliges the recipient to engage in a reciprocal, cyclical relationship, i.e., giving, receiving, and giving back."

requitals / paybacks

"For years, the organization had paid considerable sums to a business owned by a politician. The politician was helping the organization win grants, but the grants were not worth as much as the amount that had been invested.

In an email obtained in a new state investigation, an executive said a colleague had felt “insulted” by what was seen as insufficient payback."

"Like other lawmakers, Mr. Doolittle indulges "earmarking" the odious practice of delivering government contracts to favored pleaders who often requite with campaign contributions."
