Spanish term

recanalización de su lecho distal

Spanish to English Medical Medical: Cardiology Coronarography
The following occurs in a medical report for a patient with ischemic dilated cardiomyopathy:

Última Coronariografía:
Circunfleja: Oclusión total ostial, de tiempo de evolución indeterminado. No objetivamos recanalización de su lecho distal. Coronaria Derecha: Dominante. Difusamente calcificada, con oclusión total crónica en segmento medio. Los lechos distales presentan una canalización heterocoronario más pobre que en la angiografía anterior.

I am unsure what “recanalización de su lecho distal” is intended to indicate in this case, as “recanalization of its distal bed” would not appear to fit.

Can anyone help with this?
Thanks.

rechanneling of the distal bed

A description of arterial rechanneling is found at: https://www.docdoc.com/medical-information/procedures/rechan...

The process of rechanneling an artery and other procedures used to treat blocked or narrowed blood vessels are performed on patients whose blood vessels have become clogged due to plaque buildup. Plaque tends to build up, especially in the medium and large arteries, depending on the patient's age, lifestyle, and hereditary factors. Plaque buildup results in a disorder called atherosclerosis, in which the arteries harden. When this affects the carotid arteries, it results in another condition called carotid stenosis or carotid artery disease, which may cause carotid artery pain and other symptoms. ... After rechanneling the artery, blood flow to the brain is expected to improve. This can reduce the patient’s risk of suffering from a stroke. https://www.docdoc.com/medical-information/procedures/rechan...

The distal bed refers to the atheroma plaque.

recanalization of the distal vascular bed

"Recanalization" is the term to use here (recanalisation for British E)

Hi David: You are right in that collateral flow is most likely meant here (the interventional cardiologist got confused for a moment...hehe); however, that is not what the text says. I think you should translate in line with the text and write a note for the client. In any case, I meant to imply that "rechanneling" is not a "terminus technicus".

Note from asker:
Hi Lirka. Thanks for your suggestion. i would certainly use recanalization if it referred to the lumen of the distal portion of the artery, but I wonder if in this case it somehow refers to the collateral flow in the distal vascular bed (i which case I'm not sure that recanalization would be the term to use).

reopening of the downstream vascular bed

Might be an option to stay close to "recanalization" while avoiding this term which technically usually refers to a procedure or event that reopens a vessel.

If you are not obliged to be overly literal, you may also consider "reperfusion".
