I'm copy-editing an academic paper on "silence in film". I have the author's English version, but have attached the ST Spanish below. I'm wondering whether I can accurately use "movement cuts" for "cortes de movimiento". The author has used "cuts of movement" in his English rendition. The sentence, and overall text, is unwieldy, so trying to abridge as and where I can. I'm tempted to just use "cuts", but am not sure it would be accurate to assume "movement" would automatically be included e.g. https://www.masterclass.com/articles/essential-film-cuts. The target text is in US English.
Can add another ST sentence if it would help, but I don't think it will change the price of fish.
I would be grateful for input from those more in the know. Many, many thanks.
"El cine es pensar a través de la tecnología, y las imágenes y sonidos que surjan serán territorios imaginados que suscitarán ideas. En esa intencionalidad de trasmutación del espacio real, este se transformará en representado y conformará escenas y secuencias, espacios imaginados que se edificarán mediante vectores (planos), cortes de movimiento, que construirán representacionalmente el tiempo (la duración, el cambio que se produce entre sus propias relaciones)."

Selected
action cut
The "action cut" is the first bit of cutting lore learned by every apprentice. Excluding cuts made at the beginnings and ends of sequences and self-contained scenes, cuts to reactions or responses, and cuts involving exchanges of dialogue, the cutter should look for some ***movement*** of the actor who holds the viewer’s attention and use that movement to trigger the cut from one scene to the next. A broad action will offer the easier cut, but even a slight movement of some part of the player’s body can serve to initiate a cut which will be "smooth" or invisible.

Thank you very much for your help. I've selected the other answer because it was easier to work into the text, but have noted yours down for future use. Many thanks. |
