English term

Medical School subway station

Non-PRO English Art/Literary General / Conversation / Greetings / Letters
I need some help. The subway station is opposite Medical School. That's way many people call it Medical School subway station. However, I find it repetitive to write Medical School subway station every time it's imentioned in the story. It also affects the rhythm.

The subway station opposite/closest to Medical School.

Any other ways? Many thanks in advance.

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

med school station

If it’s important in the story to specify the particular station, perhaps you could streamline the language into “med school station.” This designation would be totally appropriate in colloquial American English.

neutral philgoddard : This doesn't solve the repetition problem, it just makes it two syllables shorter.

It makes it 4 syllables shorter, actually, down from the original 8. And it solves the rhythm problem the Asker referred to. It’s the best solution if the story requires specifying the particular station.

station

If there are no other stations mentioned in the story, I would simply just say station. The reader would obviously know that we are referring to the medical school subway station when the word station is mentioned each time.
