A few days later I try another tack, driving down the Cuesta de Honor to the Río Aguas rambla by Los Perales and then walking back upstream towards El Tesoro. The first section is easy, two or three hundred metres along the access track to Las Canales, then on to the pebbly bed of the rambla, hopping across braids of shallow water. So far, so good. The ruin of Molino de la Cerrá del Tesoro is visible ahead but huge boulders and vast stands of caña begin to block the narrowing valley. I manage some further progress by clambering, shimmying and ducking among these hazards, at the cost of a couple of cuts from surprisingly painful vegetation, but finally I have to admit defeat just a few metres short of another towering ruin, this time of the Molino de las Canales. All of this confusion is taking place in squares 583105 and 584105 on the 1031-I Sorbas map but the map itself doesn’t give enough detail to help and there seems to be no way through. Or so I assumed until tantalising rumours reached my ears that there is a way between El Tesoro and Los Perales and that there are people who know it; further investigation is obviously needed.
