Three hundred metres on, a deeply-incised tributary rambla comes in from the right, spanned by a high bridge with an elegant single arch. At the roadside close by this bridge stands a building repainted in a combination of peach and deep blue, a striking if not entirely subtle colour scheme. Integral stone panels high on the building, and not highlighted by the makeover, inform the passer-by that this is a CASILLA DE PEONES CAMINEROS (ROADWORKERS’ HUT) and the road is the CARRETERA DE GARRUCHA A LOS GALLARDOS Km 11. There are many such roadworkers’ buildings in the region, identifiable by the mileages marked on their walls. There is one, for example, alongside the N340-a between the A7 motorway salida 529 and Vera, by the banks of the Río Antas.
