Отличие теоретической грамматики от практического курса грамматики заключается в том, что практическая грамматика предписывает определённые правила употребления, учит, как надо говорить (писать), в то время как теоретическая грамматика, анализируя факты языка, излагает их, не давая никаких предписаний.
Насколько валидно будет называть практическую грамматику Prescriptive Grammar, а теоретическую - Descriptive Grammar? Кто-нибудь сталкивался с такими названиями в зарубежных вузах?

prescriptive (normative) and descriptive grammar/theoretical and practical grammar
The following course of theoretical grammar serves to describe the grammatical structure of the English language as a system where all parts are interconnected. The difference between theoretical and practical grammar lies in the fact that practical grammar prescribes certain rules of usage and teaches to speak (or write) correctly whereas theoretical grammar presents facts of language, while analyzing them, and gives no prescriptions.

The term prescriptive grammar refers to a set of norms or rules governing how a language should or should not be used rather than describing the ways in which a language is actually used. Contrast with descriptive grammar. Also called normative grammar and prescriptivism
