I think I have decided on "action in rem or in personam" but I will leave the question open for comments
philgoddard Feb 18, 2023:
Yes I assume this means action relating to movable or immovable property.

personalty- or realty-related action vs. in personam or in rem

I think Phil G. ought to post his Discussion Entry as an answer, because action in *personam* vs. in rem (includes a ship in English Admiralty) is too glib. Both types of action or remedy in French law encompass personal and real rights.

Personalty aka personal property -> rather than personality and realty aka real property in Eng. law -> rather than reality, as per our London translation-office audio-typists' routine typos.

I prefer realty- to land-related as again, in international shipping law (Eng. Court of Admiralty), realty refers to a vessel sued 'in rem', but land-related doesn't.

Dictionary translations -> action mobilière : action to recover movable property vs. immobilière action to recover land; action to restablish a right in rem or *in personam* over land (Bridge) personal vs. real action, Navarre.

Personally might even mean against the curateurs de la faillite personally: trustees in bankruptcy of a private individual or against the corporate insolvency-scheme trustees. It's not uncommon to sue the trustees, receivers or liquidators.
