Visual acuity
Hi,
I am currently translating a visual acuity table from France and have the following:
"vision binoculaire des reliefs normale"
What is "reliefs" in this instance? Is it "three-dimensional"?
Thanks
Joanna

stereoscopic vision = binocular vision with depth perception
Basically the answer to your question is 'yes', but I've elaborated.
This is probably simplyfying things since one can have binocular vision but still not perceive three dimensions clearly.
"Taken literally, stereoscopic vision describes the ability of the visual brain to register a sense of three-dimensional shape and form from visual inputs. In current usage, stereoscopic vision often refers uniquely to the sense of depth derived from the two eyes. [However] Current usage also means that the term ‘stereoscopic vision’ tends to include a number of issues relevant to binocular vision that are unrelated to the perception of three dimensions."

"Stereopsis is the perception of depth and 3D [is there a difference?] obtained by the visual information coming from 2 eyes through binocular vision."

: Stereoscopic vision' is a flawed concept, like quadrophonic sound, which didn't work because people only have two ears, not four;// no, not really;

You are joking, of course.

: The whole point of having two eyes instead of only one: allows for stereoscopic vision.

Bilateral contour vision
Contour vision (possibly peripheral vision) on both sides is normal;

: but your reference does not state "contour vision", it says "contour integration", which is something else entirely.

: In which manual of human anatomy and physiology have you found the concept of "contour vision"? Just curious // You dig post-festum a "reference" for an assumed translation? Problem is HOW would that feature be relevant for testing anyone's eyesight???

Discussion
"Eyesight testing" is about the picture sent from the eye to the brain - testing at what distance the picture the eye sees is sharp, the minimum light needed for the eye to see anything, absence of distortions (astigmatism) etc.
How the brain interprets the picture is not "eye testing" - once the eye sends a sharp undistorted picture how the brain is going to interpret it has nothing to do any longer with "eyesight" but the brain's capacity to do "pattern recognition" - an entirely different matter.
Ophthalmologist do not test anyone's capacity to interpret pictures. For example, this kind of "test" has nothing to do with "visual acuity":
