English term

Presbyterium

English to Arabic Social Sciences Archaeology Churches
Presbyterium

It is mentioned in an archeological description of an ancient church. It has nothing to do with clergymen or priests, as per the modern usage of the word by the Catholic Church. Kindly, find below some of the contexts:

The Church of the Virgin Mary is the only church in Madaba that follows a centralised plan. It has a round nave (9.70 m in diameter) and an elongated apsed Presbyterium (7.10 m x 5.80 m), supported by two subterranean barrel-vaults.

&

The total area of Saint Stephen's Church is about 305 m2, and comprises three naves separated by two rows of arches resting on pillars and a raised presbyterium.

So far, the closest result I get is المذبح but I am still looking for some sort of confirmation.

Thanks in advance

Many thanks Ms. Amel for your extremely helpful inputs. Your help is highly appreciated!
Arabic & More Aug 1, 2022:
Here is another description indicating that it is an area *near* the sanctuary and altar:

https://www.britannica.com/topic/presbytery-cathedral-archit...

presbytery, in Western architecture, that part of a cathedral or other large cruciform church that lies between the chancel, or choir, and the high altar, or sanctuary. As an element of a cruciform church (i.e., one laid out in the shape of a cross), the presbytery may be located geographically west of the sanctuary and east of the choir. This area, which is sometimes also called the presbyterium, can be occupied only by members of the clergy, those priests who participate in services within the sanctuary.
Arabic & More Aug 1, 2022:
Most sources I looked at seem to indicate that the presbyterium is the sanctuary, as stated by Yassine. For example, see page 19 of this document (in the middle of the page):

https://studylib.net/doc/8641977/churches-of-jerusalem-at-th...

The author of this book also goes into a lot of detail about what he thinks the term means (see page 170 along with the other pages listed in the below link):

https://books.google.jo/books?id=R3woAAAAYAAJ&printsec=front...

Basically, he compares it to the sacrarium and makes a few distinctions. He also makes mention of the altar but indicates that it includes more than the immediate area of the altar.

agree Tervana Kalds : احسنت .. فالمكان الذي يصلي فيه الكهنة يٌدعى الهيكل .. أما المذبح فهو شيء أخر داخل الهيكل .. إنني أخفقت

المذبح/الحرم

There are very references online. It's better to repost it as a monolingual question, since native English translators know more than us/me.

Liiturgically, within ١Catholicism, the presbyterium is the area of the church in which the clergy functions. It is more commonly called the sanctuary.

وكلمة pesyterium جاءت من كلمة presbyter=priest وهو الكاهن
ولأن المذبح هو المكان المخصص للكهنة في الصلوات الجماعية
لذلك اطلق على ذلك المكان presbyterium

Thank you, Ayman! However, this refers to one of the Christian Churches that is known as الكنيسة المشيخية
Peer comments on this reference comment:

neutral Arabic & More : The word is "Presbyterium" (which refers to an architectural feature of the church) and not Presbyterian (a denomination of Christianity).
