tradycyjny śpiew litewsk
Dzūkija is traditionally considered as the exemplary region of intricate solo performance. One flexible melody can have many variants that acquire new meandering elements from one singer and time to the next. Musicologists say that, today, a wide variety of modes only exist in Dzūkija; in addition to the “simple” major- and minor-type modes, these include the so-called Ancient Greek modes. However, recent acoustical studies showed that usually such modes are mere misinterpretations of more archaic, “loosely-knit” quasi-equidistant scales.
