Dr Sue Levy (X) Aug 4, 2006:
The terms are not synonymous. Brittle diabetes is a type of IDDM characterised by unpredictable swings in blood glucose and is therefore difficult to
Maria Chmelarova Aug 3, 2006:
Juvenile D. and Brittle D. are other names for Type I Insulin Dependent Diabetes Mellitus (IDDM); www.umassmed.edu/diabeteshandbook/chap03.htm
or www.abbottdiabetescare.ca/educator/questions/pattern_3.htm ( where the name came from...)
Dr Sue Levy (X) Aug 3, 2006:
I don't speak Slovak but I can see this glossary entry is wrong. Brittle diabetes is not the same as type 1 insulin-dependent diabetes.
Maria Chmelarova Aug 3, 2006:

Citajte dalej v mojom prispevku.

Brittle D.- The term "Brittle Diabetes refers to the problem of wide , unpredictable and uncontrolable swings in blood glucose, usually in people who inject insulin. This term has been around a long time, and previously was "everused and abused" beforehome blood glucose monitoring became available. There was a time when I often heard such comments as: "I'm brittle-no matter what I do, my blood glucose jumps all over, for no explainable reason, and no one can control my diabetes."

Dakujem. Vyraz chapem ako zavislost a nie kolisavost.
