Así se llaman en Excel; mejor dicho, la herramienta que se llama "Sparklines" en la versión inglesa (a partir de Excel 2010) se llama "Minigráficos" en la versión española (que tengo en casa). En realidad, "Spark charts" hubiera sido un nombre más adecuado, ya que el programa ofrece tres modalidades: Line, Column y Win/Loss (en español: Línea, Columna, Pérdidas y ganancias). En todo caso, parece que "sparklines" y "spark charts" son sinónimos, y si hubiera que especificar en español, se podría poner "minigráfico de línea".
No sé si Microsoft inventó el término o si ya existía. "Minigráficos" me parece un término adecuado para lo que se describe en tu referencia (que demuestra que el fenómeno no es nuevo, sino que existe desde hace siglos).
