Portuguese term

...das vávulas no campo.

Portuguese to English Tech/Engineering Petroleum Eng/Sci terminology -
More instructions on shut down procedures on an oil rig, where by they saying if all the auto systems fail, the controller can (I assume?) shut down the transfer pumps and manually close the valves,en situ???
My doubt is the correct translation of the last term "em campo", if this was a shore based installation I wud be tempted to say maybe something like literal translation ie. "in the field".as opposed to remotely shutting off from the control room.But this is an off shore installation so that wud not make sense.
The full context below:

Caso o comando manual via sala de controle não funcione, o operador da sala de controle determina a parada local das bombas de transferência e o fechamento manual das válvulas no campo.

(the valves) in the field

Despite the location of this installation, *in the field" (indeed meaning "on site") appears to be the standard choice in the valve terminology.

"Bolted construction Describes a valve construction in which the pressure shell elements (such as body and closures of a trunnion ball valve) are bolted together and so can be taken apart and repaired *in the field*.

"Approximately 80% of all spring return diaphragm operators *in the field* are of this construction."

Peer comment(s):

agree Martin Riordan : Seems like a good explanation. Using "on site" in the translation might make it clearer.

Thank you Edward
agree coolbrowne : Yes. That would sound natural in English. In fact, given the subject, I wouldn't be surprised if the Portuguese text turned out to be a literal "translation" from English. On the other hand, "on site" might prove helpful for speakers of other languages.

My reading... where 'field valves' are on the 'oil field' (supply) side of the rig, as distinct from the valves controlling output to the land-bound pipeline (delivery side).
