Spanish term

Amigos del Pueblo Saharaui

Spanish to English Marketing Tourism & Travel
I am considering leaving this in the original Spanish. Any thoughts?

También puedes optar por formar parte de alguno de los programas de acogida de niños que organizan distintas ONG, como los Amigos del Pueblo Saharaui.

Friends of the Sahrawi People (Amigos del Pueblo Saharaui)

Hi Adam

I'd leave both, but use Sahrawi as the spelling form in English.

An example:

FMO Research Guide: - [ Traduzca esta página ]... Youth (UJSARIO) and some 300 associations throughout Spain collectively referred to as “Friends of the Sahrawi People” ( Amigos del Pueblo Saharaui). ...

These are not 'trademark names' and are often translated to convey undertanding.

Good luck!

Amigos of the Saharaui People

I would suggest this - "amigos" is really universal and thus it retains some of its flavor

You are right, the name (a "nombre propio" in Spanish) must not be changed. It's like "EL Corte Inglés" or "Juan Pérez", you just leave it as it is.

Or "Telefónica de España"; you don't translate it into "Telephonic of Spain".-
Peer comment(s):

agree Nedra Rivera Huntington : Yes, but with the English in parentheses. I think 'Alvaro's reading is good, but I'd keep the Spanish first, as it's an organization.

OK.Thanks.-
agree Rachel Fell : depending on the rest of the text, it might be better to put the Spanish 1st\\No, but this is different from a company name and surely would need to be explained to an Eng. spking reader?

Thanks, Rachel. I generally don't do it in my jobs, depending on the sort of name (the "Telefónica" is a good example); Can you imagine "Bell South" with "Campana Sur" between brackets???
