Daniel Grigoras . I bought Wordfast Studio at a discounted rate just to be prepared in the event of being asked to work in Wordfast or receiving Wordfast projects. I haven't used it much until now, and all I can say is that it's not a bad tool. I like that it is platform independent, i.e. it runs on Windows, MacOS and Linux.

How easy is it to learn?

Achalemoipas . Working with this software is like driving a car from the 1940's, but with triangle wheels.
I've calculated, using a productivity software, that for an 8 hours work day using this thing, I spend almost 1 hour waiting for it to work (opening, going from one segment to the next, getting memory results, etc.). In fact, the very reason I'm writing this is because I was interrupted again.
It has a whole bunch of buttons and functions that do absolutely nothing. You can't superscript text, for example. That's just dumb. There's no other word for it. That's a very basic function that is absolutely required. Can't preview files either. The buttons are there, but just as a decoration.
I paid a fortune to buy this horribly programmed piece of garbage because the translation agency I work for requires we use it. I can't even comprehend why they would. It makes no sense to me. It's like choosing to dig a whole with a plastic fork when shovels exist.
If I wasn't obligated to use it, I would sue them to get my money back. And I'd win. I'd win very easily simply by working with it in front of the judge, who would probably lose their patience too.

Ia Dzamashvili . It takes much more time to work in wordfast than in sdlx or even tag editor. You cannot easily navigate between the segments. Why cannot you move from one segment to the next by simply clicking on "enter". It is really sadistic.
Then the placeables are set so that you cannot move them around. What if the structure of the translated sentence is totally different, how are you going to chase them to fit them between the correct placeables?
1. it is more trouble; 2. Translator has to invest more; 3 but translator does not get any profit out of it. The clients get it cheaper, because they come up with some tables and deduct repetitions (which they call gold etc.) Why should I invest for somebody else to get it cheaper? This is such a robbery.
Out of all translation tools, Sdlx is the best.

How easy is it to learn?

Adrian Dunbar . Wordfast Pro's current version is still essentially in beta. It is unacceptably buggy. Translation units randomly get overwritten by incorrect units. Some files cannot upload into the program if they are too large, it will simply say 'not enough memory.' Terminology highlights, instead of highlighting the term, will cover the entire line. Buttons are often unresponsive or do not work at all. There have been numerous times where the file cannot save after you complete it. Can you imagine being on a tight deadline with your client and having your CAT tool tell you that it cannot save your file, and does not know why? If you are lucky, the program will cost you several hours to get things fixed, or perhaps it will simply over write your translations with incorrect content from a random translation unit; if you are unfortunate, you might be completely stranded and miss your deadlines, upsetting clients.
The program basically works, but it will also break many times, and the breaks will be so bad that it could really cause you serious damage. The product, at its current phase, has not been finished. It would be fine to offer it for free as a beta version, but the pricing for this is $500 USD right now.

How easy is it to learn?
Straightforward but slow

Shirley Foo . I purchased the license after using its demo version and WFA for a while. I didn't like WFP 5 and decided to switch back to WFP 3.
It's a pretty straightforward tool with some functions that are easier to use than the other tool I have, but it freezes for at least 20 seconds whenever there's a TM connection timeout. I wouldn't recommend it for working with large files since it can get quite slow, and I'm always having problems with long segments in both the text and table views.
