Studio 2009: a term change

Hi all,

My use case is as follows: I've translated some part of the text and found out a better translation for a term (in MultiTerm); so I fix that term and would like to apply it for the already translated content.

What I see now in Trados is only Find/Replace. Is there a better way for such things (in Trados or other CAT's)? I.e. I would like to mark it as a task (at minimum) so I won't forget later about it etc.

You can mark the word, right click and choose add comment. This will serve as a reminder.

It should also be possible to use the Terminology Verifyer after changing you glossary. You can "check for possible non-usage of the target terms".

Most likely the first suggestion will be the most efficient if you use a large glossary.

Btw, "check for possible non-usage of the target terms" is a nice feature (but not turned on by default).

It's not on by default because it can be incredibly annoying and it's usually not very useful at all - I know from experience. I imagine that a "forbidden terms" list would be much less likely to generate false positives. MT and the Studio QA settings also support forbidden terms, but I've never used that feature.

My way of making project-wide terminology changes goes like this:

1. Finish off your translation and proofreading.
2. Create a new empty TM for your project and set it to Update.
3. Run 'Update Main Translation Memories'.
4. Open the new TM in Translation Memories view and make your changes.
5. Disable all other TMs in your project except this new TM.
6. Run Pretranslate files with "Always overwrite existing translation" option selected in Batch Setting... See more

7. Re-select the TMs you wish to be updated and remove the temporary TM.
8. Run finalise and you're done. But note that all your segments are now marked as Context Matches. This is why you MUST complete your proofreading before using this process.
