accepting sub-domain mail

I have a machine that sometimes tries to send me mail. The machine is "laika.tiros.net", but it lives on a local net so it is not known to the world. Nonetheless it can send mail out.
But the messages are not accepted as the domain "laika.tiros.net" is not known:

Since "tiros.net" is a domain being hosted here for me, shouldn't it be possible for me to send mail to any subdomain? Is there something I need to set up for this (but shouldn't there be a catchall function in effect, anyhow)?
