danger bells are tolling

The word danger my have a better impact here, which is what Zuhair may be alluding to in his answer. This wording and tense may also fit with the gravity of the situation that the author is trying to reflect. For example:

Now the danger bells are tolling, heralding a word on the brink of war.

or you can ommit the definite article for a different impact:

Now danger bells are tolling, heralding ...

agree Sami Khamou : The metaphor is very clear in this question.

agree Khalid Alkodah : tolling is better than ringing ... tolling itself means danger

He rang the alarm bells

He rang the alarm bells
He sounded the alarm bells
Peer comment(s):

agree Alaa Zeineldine : the alarm bells rang أعتقد أن ناقوس الخطر هو الفاعل في هذه الجملة

Than you Alaa ربما "دق" هو فعل لفاعل مذكور في جملة سابقة. هذا يعتمد على السياق وتحريك الكلمة

The alarm bells rang/sounded

either verb is possible, although I might change the tense depending on the wider context

The bells of danger rang/sounded/hammered

I would simply translate it as it is. The phrase "bells of danger" is certainly used in English.

The tocsin ringing was signalling the danger of eminent war

Declined
Ectaco defines tocsin as ناقوس الخطر exactly:
N ناقوس الخطر
so does the Sakhr dicitionary in the Family Program disc.

Merriam Webster's defines tocsin:

1 : an alarm bell or the ringing of it
2 : a warning signal

Any particular reason for the absolute decline? I am interested to know from a purely academic perspective.
