this recurrs (and is often used interchangeablly with zoopsia) in drug testing in animals. Sentences like:
Esame zooptico completo (dopo sacrificio degli animali e dissanguamento dall'aorta addominale in anestesia eterea)
Al termine del periodo di allattamento le femmine Ff venivano sacrificate in anestesia eterea e sottoposte al controllo zooptico : utilizzando la metodica di Salewsk
I have found that zoopsia has to do with hallucinations but that doesn't appear to be the case here. Could this simply be complete examination of the animals?
Would appreciate any ideas.

Speaking from experience, I can say that often consistency is not always pursued in scientific writing, mainly - but not exclusively - in Italian. Italians, however, are those with the greatest "poetic license" :). In addition, and to their (weak) defense, the Italian language doesn't like repetitions, so writers tend to avoid them even when it is not appropriate to do so.
