English term

table percentage

English to German Tech/Engineering Mining & Minerals / Gems Schmuck, Schliff von Diamanten
Es geht um den Schliff von Diamanten und deren "Tiefe".

Der Kontext lautet:

"For several reasons: first of all, if the diamond is cut too deep, the light leaks out the diamond instead of being reflected back which causes it to look darker and more dull, this optical phenomenon is called “nailhead”.

On the contrary, should the diamond be too shallow, the girdle is actually reflected in the diamond and it causes the optical phenomenon called “fisheye”.

Obviously, even if a diamonds depth is excellent, if its ***table percentage*** and the angles are poor, the overall look of a diamond will be far from perfect."

Wie ist hier "table percentage" zu übersetzen? Ausgangswert? Ausgangsprozentsatz?

Discussion

Wolfgang Hummel (asker) Jul 28, 2016:
@ Cilian The text is from a sales brochure for end customers. It is possible, that the text is a translation frpm Durch.
Cilian O'Tuama Jul 27, 2016:
What's the register? Is this taken from a chat between friends or from e.g. a sales brochure or specialist documentation for jewellers?
The specialist terms seem to be sound, but the surrounding English? Sounds like a translation, maybe even from German ('On the contrary'...)

Prozentwert der Tafel / Tafelprozentwert

Die Tafel (engl.: Table) beschreibt das Verhältnis des Tafeldurchmessers zum Gesamtdurchmesser des Diamanten.
Üblicherweise wird die Tafel in Prozent angegeben. Bei Brillanten wird eine Tafel zwischen 56% und 60% als ideal angesehen.

Example sentence:

Tafelprozentwert: Je höher der Wert, desto größer wirkt die Tafel. Je niedriger, desto kleiner wirkt sie.
