Machining tools - CNC
Hi,
Can you help me to translate the term 'byte' ?
It's about a tool used in CNC machining (sometimes written as 'bite')
" With this function work piece is machined by scratching using a BYTE and controlling the spindle rotation. "
" This allows precise positioning of the tool at a specific angle. Machining is carried out with the spindle rotation stopped. The hale byte removes material by scratching the workpiece. "
Thanks in advacne.

outil
My guess is it's a mistake: it should be "bit" (mèche, outil) in the sense of tool (or the cutting part of it) for machining a blank to make parts/pieces

: it is some kind of tool, but "outil" might be not specific enough.// if the term relevant for the ST is the whole of "hale byte" then THAT is the term to translate - whichever way the question was asked.

yes, but bit is non specific (unless clear from context or stated) in English too. Asker's text says "hale", which I ignore what it is, as qualifier, but they ask about "byte" alone. I interpret it as "bit"

fraise

: A 'fraise' rotates, this 'byte' does not. OK for 'outil'.

A tool bit is a non-rotary cutting tool used in metal lathes, shapers, and planers. Such cutters are also often referred to by the set-phrase name of single-point cutting tool, as distinguished from other cutting tools such as a saw or water jet cutter. The cutting edge is ground to suit a particular machining operation and may be resharpened or reshaped as needed. The ground tool bit is held rigidly by a tool holder while it is cutting.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tool_bit

'tool' = « outil » ; 'bit (insert)' = « plaquette (de coupe) ».

https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Étau_limeur

https://fr.dmgmori.com/produits/machines/fraisage/fraisage-5...
"The present invention relates to a HALE-MACHINING METHOD and an apparatus thereof for machining a workpiece by way of HAULING OR HALING a TOOL on a surface of the workpiece, especially machining the workpiece by the tool in an attitude control in which a direction of a tool axis is substantially coincided with a normal direction of the machined surface of the workpiece and a front RAKE SURFACE OF THE TOOL is substantially directed at a perpendicular angle to a FEEDING DIRECTION OF THE TOOL. This machining is called as the HALE-MACHINING hereinafter."
I mentioned a part of this as an example. My problem/question is to find the right translation of this term 'byte' ...
