I'm translating a report of the annual plenary meeting of a company's European Works Council.
It's nine pages of bullet points.
The first bullet point under the heading: 'Positive indicators' reads:
The manufacturing sector ok due to export demand. January industrial output rose 1.7% **on the month**. A further pickup in external demand during the year should lift exports, and the recent depreciation of the euro may provide some additional help.
I'm not familiar with the term "on the month". Does this refer to the same month in the previous year?

In januari steeg de industriële produktie met 1,7% tegenover de maand voordien.
volgens mij betekent "on the month" zoiets als "als we weer een maand verder zijn", "nadat een maand is verstreken"

The Council of Mortgage Lenders (CML) has today revealed a slight fall in the number of home loans for house purchase in August.
According to the CML, there were 53,000 new mortgages granted in August compared to 56,000 in July.
While the figure represents a 5% fall on the month, the figure represents a 30% rise when compared with August last year.
53000:56000 --> 0,9464 ..... --> 53000 is 94,64 ... % van 56000 --> daling van 5,357... % ten opzichte van de voorafgaande maand
5,357... is op nul decimalen afgerond 5%
