permafrost Permafrost is appropriate in Norwegian too. When it's not so permanent, we call it 'tele' in the ground. Our buckled highways are called 'telehiv'. Degraded permafrost, and even more so discontinuous permafrost in the above examples, indicate that the term is often applied to a situation that is rather less than absolutely permanent. Now, if someone with the proper criteria set would just enter permafrost, a couple of ready agrees would lay this one to rest.
