shalaaq شلاق is a persian word meaning ''whip''. whiplash is known as acceleration flexion-extension neck injury.caused by automobiles accident or horseback riding falls. Dyring whiplash the neck move backward and forward very quickly. shalaaq zad شلا ق زد سیمس تو بے سیطبلے.

kindly give the meanings too. I do agree with the first part of your entry that Urdu equivalents are coined with Arabic and Farsi synonyms. Regarding your suggested name 'shalaaq zadni', it would have been better if you had explained the meanings of both words constituting 'shalaaq zadni'. I am familiar with 'zadni' being used in Urdu like وہ قتل کے جرم میں گردن زدنی قرار پایا (although here 'zadni' means 'سر قلم کرنا' and it does not fit properly for 'whip lash' when we say that it is a neck 'injury' due to severe shock to the head.) I do not know anything about the other word 'shalaaq', Kindly explain a little. Thanks

Using Arabic and persian synonyms is not a drawback of Urdu. Every language has a cultural background. . English contains latin greec and hebrew medical terms. Urdu equivalents are coined with Arabic and Persian synonyns. Let us coin ''SHALAAQ ZADANI '' for whisplash. Plz suggest.

A language drawback I'm afraid single terms are sometimes not available in Urdu for many terms or we have to use Arabic (معرّب) or Farsi (مفرّس) synonyms and I consider it a big drawback of our language. It is an open filed of work for linguistic researchers. I experience a similar problem in Punjabi (Shahmukhi) translations. Please comment.

Reference:

Oxford English to Urdu Dictionary.

or if you want to be brief you can use گردن کا زخم but it might not express the cause of the injury for which this particular term is used.
