French term

catalogue

French to English Tech/Engineering Media / Multimedia TV / Radio broadcasting
«responsabilité éditoriale», l'exercice d'un contrôle effectif tant sur la sélection des programmes que sur leur organisation, soit sur une grille chronologique, soit sur un **catalogue** dans le cas de services de médias audiovisuels à la demande,

I see precisely what it is, but being way behind the times with my big old telly, I don't know what the correct term should be.

There was an earlier example of both grille and catalogue together and I had chosen programme and schedule. However, I think that I should avoid schedule here as it misses the point of being able to chose when you want.

Thanks

Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

Non-PRO (1): cc in nyc

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

Both... ...are used in the USA;same difference.
Alan Douglas (X) Aug 1, 2011:
Catalogue, catalog ? Both answers are correct. It just depends whether you prefer UK or US spelling. For a UK asker I would opt for catalogue.
Julie Barber (asker) Jul 31, 2011:
Hello all. I know that the answer seems straight forward but I'd wanted to check it out. I had found "back catalogue" of old BBC shows, but didn't see anything went I looked on Virgin. I don't watch much TV and have, gulp, only just got Freeview!

catalogue

Is there any reason why the literal 'catalogue' wouldn't work here? Even in VoD, people surely choose from a catalogue of available programmes?

catalog

Or catalogue... Why not? The term seems to be current in on-demand radio and TV:

And above all, we need to beef up that catalog of iPad-playable shows.

YouTube will double its movie rental catalog by adding 3,000 movies to the service.
