French term

angles de glissement

French to English Tech/Engineering Mining & Minerals / Gems
Hi,

I have found 'slip angles' but I'm not sure if this is correct.

Thanks

angles of repose/rest

That is at least the usual name for 'angle de glissement' (IATE, European reference). I think they mean that the 'angles of repose/rest' of the quarry/mine need to be reduced in order to prevent sliding of material into the quarry. This based on a study of the material of both the supporting layer and the quarried material.

I agree with that, but a quarry implies (at least) two of those angles: the one of the quarried material and the one of the underlying rock. If the latter slides, the other slides as well. It would be helpfull to see the whole thing.

I don't want to complicate things, but am also wondering about "slope angle"..

neutral Kirsten Bodart : This means 'angle d'éboulement', though. It is the angle on which materials (loose or fragmented) will start to slide. That angle is lsightly greater than the angle of repose which is the angle on which materials will stay or will stop sliding.(Hacattepe)
